Uit de rondgang blijkt dat de twee grootste hypotheekverstrekkers van Nederland, Rabobank en de ING, geen plannen hebben om een Blok-hypotheek aan te bieden. Ook andere banken, zoals SNS, Moneyou, Delta Lloyd en Royal Bank of Scotland laten weten geen haast te maken met de productontwikkeling of het product niet als commercieel interessant te zien. Alleen ABN Amro zegt in de tweede helft van het jaar een dergelijke hypotheek aan te willen bieden.

De Blok-Hypotheek is door minister Blok van Wonen ontwikkeld om starters te helpen op de woningmarkt. De consument sluit met een Blok-hypotheek naast een normale annuïteitenhypotheek een extra schuldopbouwhypotheek af. Deze extra lening wordt gebruikt om de maandlasten uit de eerste hypotheek te dempen. Aan het einde van de looptijd blijven consumenten hierdoor echter wel met een restschuld zitten.
